Resilience Now is a new non-profit initiative that aims to support vulnerable communities in building resilience to the most likely social, economic, political and environmental threats they face.
By mobilising the skills of professionals with expertise in the fields of emergency relief delivery, disaster risk reduction, sustainable livelihoods development, resilience science and permaculture design the initiative aims to support vulnerable communities in developing their capacity to design and implement sustainable and resilient livelihoods systems that are tailored specifically to their particular development aspirations and environmental contexts.
We also aim to provide expertise and organisational support to relief and development agencies, working with them to build their capacity to design and implement programs for the development of sustainable and resilient communities, in both crisis non-crisis situations, and at all stages of the programme cycle, from emergency relief operations and disaster recovery programs, through post-conflict reconstruction and disaster risk reduction.
While using a variety of methodologies and technical approaches to resilience-building, Resilience Now draws particularly upon the principles and techniques of permaculture, a field of expertise designed specifically to improve the socio-ecological resilience of communities by taking a holistic approach to the development of sustainable livelihoods systems.
We also aim to gather, develop, implement and disseminate innovative solutions, both methodological and technical, from a variety of fields, including: sustainable design, energy transition planning, climate change adaptation, urban farming, bioclimatic building, eco-sanitation, renewable energies, sustainable agriculture, land restoration, etc.
Registered in Paris, and operating from Washington DC, London and Nairobi, Resilience Now aims to work globally, in both rural and urban contexts, in both developing and industrialized countries.
